To tell the truth, I have no idea why I decided to create LuhLob. Me and some friends were going through a "creative drought" of sorts, so maybe I was just trying to give myself something to do. When I finished filming the pilot episode, which we now know as "Curses / Chum Rescue," I sent a message in a Discord group chat with some friends letting them know. We watched the premiere, and I gave them a survey afterward. Based on th results, it was quite clear they enjoyed it. Had my friends poorly received the pilot, there would be no LuhLob today. Looking back on "Curses / Chum Rescue," it's really not a great episode by any sense. I supposed like any good show it was surprising enough to be interesting at the time, and since then, it has certainly found it's footing.
LuhLob was originally going to be framed as lost media. The channel itself was intended to be "archival" and was run by a person who somehow managed to save and reuploaded these old toy videos from back in 2012-2013. Me and my friends were hoping to start a search for these videos and gain some traction, which, of course, were never actually lost to begin with.
(Kind of a messed up thing to try and do looking back, wasting everyone's time like that, but whatever.)Eventually, I decided to drop the lost media angle and fully took on the role of Airbornes Magog. For anyone still wondering, no, of course that's not my real name. It's an anagram. I'll discuss that more later. Below is a screenshot of the original channel and description. This was taken just 11 minutes after "Curses / Chum Rescue" was uploaded.
If you've seen LuhLob then you've likely picked up on the fact that it is in fact made with Fisher-Price Imaginext action figures, sets, and props. Well, it all started back when I was a small child. When the sets first came out, I had got them and would play with them constantly. I vividly remember lying on the floor of my room and playing with the Krusty Krab and Chum Bucket playset specifically. Years went by however, and I quickly forgot about these entirely and ended up losing them at some point.
Eventually, for whatever reason, I had remembered these toys and how often I used to play with them. I decided to check eBay and see if there were any listings, and lo and behold, I found a box full of sets and characters for about $55 USD. I was somewhat shocked at the low price, so I acted fast and bought it. I would later find out that the reason the price was so low is because not only was everything pretty heavily used, but they were also likely shoplifted... no, I'm not kidding. We searched up the seller and found a pretty extensive criminal history of shoplifting.
It's kind of odd to think that some kid probably played with this for years like I had, and they got sold by his mom and are now used to make a crude internet show. Well random kid, if you're reading this, just know I've been taking good care of everything. Except for that one time I submerged Conch Street in water... and that other time I slammed all the stuff around... I've done that a lot actually. Other than that I've been taking good care of them. You can take solace in knowing that these silly little toys have made thousands of people happy.
(Also I replaced your Conch Street set because it was faded and looked like hell. I plan on replacing the rest soon enough too, so enjoy it while it lasts kid...)A while before I even had the idea to make LuhLob, a friend had shown me a video of someone narrating various "Spunch Bob" memes. Ever since we saw that video, it's become a running joke between us to call SpongeBob anything BUT SpongeBob. This eventually led to us trying to think of a name for the show later down the line, and we naturally thought of funnier versions of SpongeBob's name, thus, the name LuhLob was born. I have attached the original video below.
Well obviously I'm not just going to tell you. I'm not even going to give you any clues. I know how insane internet detectives can be, so I'm not going to give much of any hints to my real identity at all. I've already been somewhat careless anyway, so I'm sure if anyone cares enough they can figure it out.
I'm not a celebrity or any notable personality. As evident in the videos, I am just a teen who plays with SpongeBob action figures. I won't reveal my age, however I'm probably older than you'd expect based on my high-pitched voice and extremely childish sense of humor. I found the name Airbornes Magog while I was in a call with the aforementioned friends. We were trying to think of funny anagrams of my real name, we came across Airbornes Magog, laughed at it way more than we should have, and decided to use it.
(If anyone ever tries to guess who I am, I will refuse to confirm or deny any details...)I grew up watching toy/plush YouTubers quite often. This naturally inspired me, and I have made numerous plush channels in the past—none of them even remotely successful—but that's not why I did it anyway. I did it because it capture something that is otherwise hard to capture. No matter your age, race, sex, etc., I can almost guarantee you grew up playing with some kind of toys. Maybe expensive toys, or maybe you played with rocks and sticks outside. Either way, you know what it's like. Something about plush and toy channels (especially the less professional ones) seem to capture that energy perfectly. That's what I enjoy about making these kinds of videos the most.
Now, even as a child I knew the plush and toy content was sort of... junk food. I don't say that to be mean-spirited, in fact, I do have a lot of respect for those kinds of creators, but I could never really take the videos too seriously. That's my main problem with the medium of plush and toy content... it's all toys... so no matter how hard I try, I just can't take it seriously! That's why LuhLob was made slightly different than other channels I had created in the past.
LuhLob almost parodies the plush/toy content style. I go in with a rough idea, but most jokes are improvised moments before or even during recording. On top of this, I stutter and stammer a lot. Most times this is intentional, but not always! Either way, this emulates the style of a kid making things up as he goes. When I export the videos, I also intentionally downscale them to 720p video quality. Most scenes are recorded in either FHD or occasionally 4K, but again, in order to emulate the classic plush/toy video style, I choose to downscale everything. The jokes are all crude and often times completely nonsensical and idiotic. While this style of humor does appeal to me, it is again, a part of those classic videos I used to watch.
It is always harder to look like you're not trying than it is to actually try.
Anyway, this is all to say... LuhLob is not just made for all of you, but for me, and my friends. I do enjoy making LuhLob and I have an optimistic outlook for it's future. I hope you continue watching and find some sort of joy, and maybe LuhLob will inspire you too.
